PBL Records

August

Facing the joint intensive for the international ICT Project Based Learning, which will start in this coming October, only the UEC students will have special classes about the procedure of this project, the plan of the October program, and notes about the trip to Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications for the final report of PBL mechanism understood by them after to complete some preliminary works of the international PBL that was going to initiate.

From the special class

September

UEC students went abroad to Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in China.

On the first day, all the International PBL participants gathered to know each other, acquired the tools required for the course and made groups of PBL students through placement.

The second day, the subjects of each PBL theme were provided the groups and the students discussed the timetable and role assignment for PBL development.

On the final day, Every group summarized the results of the discussion into PowerPoint materials and presented it.

All the students experienced the operation of equipment and learned its operation procedures and structure, with the development of positive debates in the last half of the class; it was distinctive that they enthusiastically tried to solve their subject of PBL by themselves. We are looking forward to the PBL competition that will be done in Japan through their keen discussion.

December

Wireless Networks

In the Wireless Networks Group for the PBL theme, student groups approached three problems in a competition of study results on December in the UEC. Common purpose in three problems is that all groups aim to cross the finish line remote-controlled car on the stereoscopic route with fastest score.

First problem is to drive the remote-controlled cars on stereoscopic course through the direct communication between the controller and the car. Second problem required how fast the cars can run out an assigned route over a multi-hop wireless network. In the multi-hop network, some issues such as delay, disconnection and so on often occur. Students should quickly and accurately control the car with avoiding these problems by own idea and techniques.

In the third problems environment, interferences causes a reduction in performance are arisen. They may encounter difficulties to guide it due to unexpected issues on the car operation, but everything worked out without incidents and all of them obtained a good time in a friendly atmosphere over all problems.

DSP

In the DSP subject teams of students from the two universities of Japan and China competed against each other on the performance of their products. Each team integrated their creative ideas and performed a presentation of their PBL works and products during three days.

The first day, each team debated about their works and initiatives.

The second day, they improved the product based on their design and the results of the debates.

And the last day, they implemented the last products, and presented their performance.

The performance was evaluated through both, objective and subjective measurement of the residual facts. During in the competition they tried to improve the performance by changing parameters, so the residual resonance could be reduced even more, according with the positive discussions in each team just before the final presentation.

Security

Security group consists of 9 student from three universities UEC (Japan), BUPT (China) and HYU (Korea). In 2013, 2 foreign students from Estonia and Mexico also attended this class. During three days, Each team aim to implements high-speed cryptographic function called SHA-256 by hardware and software.

The first day, each team discuss idea to optimize the source codes.

The second day, they implement SHA-256 codes on hardware and software.

And the last day, they check the processing time.

During in the competition they tried to improve the performance by changing parameters and source code. So they could implement high-speed SHA-256 function, due to the positive discussions in each team.
